SheBelieves Cup 2018: USA 1-0 England – as it happened

Not the most convincing victory for the USA, relying on one moment of madness in the English defense to get on the scoreboard, but England didn’t offer a whole lot in reply, leaving Alyssa Naeher a bored spectator through much of the match.

So the USA lift the SheBelieves Cup, which isn’t the most meaningful trophy in the world but has extra symbolic significance after the USA’s poor showing last year.

England will leave with a lot of questions. That was an ultimately tepid display with far too many mistakes -- not just the howler in their own end but several pointless passes and toothless attacks. Perhaps the early rout over a young French team gave them false confidence?

Thanks for following along with us tonight. Enjoy the FAWSL and NWSL seasons.

90 mins +3: Williams knocks down a couple of defenders. England should have the ball at the top of their own arc, but it’s somehow knocked far down the field. Then a ballgirl tosses another ball on the field. It’s a comedy of errors and not entirely fair -- not at all fair, actually -- but the ref blows the whistle.
