Teenager shot dead near London cinema complex

A teenager has been shot dead near a cinema in London. The 19-year-old is the first teenager to die of gunshots in the capital this year.

Police were called to Hollywood Green, Wood Green, north London at about 12.32am on Thursday to reports of a shooting, the Metropolitan police said.

Officers found the young man suffering from a gunshot injury outside the cinema complex.

It is believed that the assailants fled on a moped after shooting the teenager. He was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

The Hollywood Green complex is mainly comprised of a Vue cinema, and is close to the Wood Green tube station.

No arrests have been made, and the man’s next-of-kin have been informed.

DCI Luke Marks said: “At this early stage, we’re trying to piece together exactly what has happened.

“However, we believe two people made off on a moped shortly after the incident and this is one line of inquiry that we’re actively pursuing.

“We would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information, to come forward and speak to police as soon as possible.”
